More from Senator Brogdon
November 28th, 2007 by DavidIn re Kathleen’s recent post about the questions Oklahoma State Senator Randy Brogdon is raising about why Attorney General Edmondson chucked his October 2 indictment of the Oklahoma Three (to be re-issued ater alleged technical problems are allegedly resolved), click here to read the full press release from Brogdon’s office.
Brogdon takes the opportunity to note “recent negative news coverage of the Attorney General’s prosecution against the ‘Oklahoma.’ Editorials in The Wall Street Journal and Forbes magazine compared Oklahoma’s justice system to that of Pakistan and North Korea, respectively.”
“Drew Edmondson and this outrageous prosecution are an embarrassment to the state,” Brogdon said. “His politically motivated decision to prosecute three innocent people has cast the state in a negative light and has been criticized by publications read throughout the nation and world….
“This is a good time of the year for our Attorney General to reflect on what is at stake and end the persecution of three innocent people…. This politically motivated prosecution sends a chilling message to our citizens to never buck the political system.”
Good stuff. Of course, Edmondson and his allies don’t have to reflect very hard to realize that this politically motivated prosecution “sends a chilling message” to Oklahoma citizens not to buck the system in the way specifically enabled by the constitutionally-protected right of citizen initiative. That was the point. One might as well exhort the Grinch to recognize the hazard posed by his actions to the spirit of Christmas. In any case, the Grinch failed to steal Christmas and Edmondson will fail to steal our democratic heritage.
